Do I Need a Visa?
For short stays and vacations, visitors are always welcome on the friendly island of Bermuda. You can stay for up to three months on vacation or up to six months with a short-term permit visa if approved. Make sure your passport has adequate unused pages for necessary stamps upon arrival and departure.
Work Permits:
To work in Bermuda, you must be Bermudian, married to a Bermudian, or hold a Permanent Resident’s Certificate (PRC). If you don’t fall into any of these categories, you will need a valid work permit.
There are several types of work permits available, depending on the nature of work and the duration of employment:
Standard Work Permit:
The Standard Work Permit enables organizations in Bermuda to employ foreign nationals if they can demonstrate that no suitably qualified Bermudian, Bermudian spouse, or PRC holder is available for the job. Employers can apply for Standard Work Permits valid for one, two, three, four, or five years.
Periodic Work Permit:
Employers seeking to hire non-resident individuals who will make multiple visits to Bermuda over a period of time, with each visit not exceeding 30 days, can apply for a Periodic Work Permit. Advertising for this type of permit is not required.
Short Term Work Permit:
The Short Term Work Permit allows all employers, including not-for-profit organizations, registered charities, and religious institutions, to employ individuals for periods of up to six months.
New Business Work Permit:
A New Business Work Permit grants automatic approval of work permits for the first six months to exempted companies (as defined in the Companies Act) that are new to Bermuda.
Global Entrepreneur Work Permit (GE Permit):
The Global Entrepreneur Work Permit allows individuals to work and reside in Bermuda for one year in relation to an exempted company or section 114B start-ups. The work activities may include business planning, seeking government or regulatory approvals, meeting compliance or financial requirements, or raising capital.
Global Work Permit:
A Global Work Permit enables individuals already employed by a global company in another jurisdiction to transfer to the Bermuda office without the need to advertise the position. Employers can apply for Global Work Permits valid for one, two, three, four, or five years.
Fintech Business Work Permit:
The Fintech Business Work Permit allows new Fintech companies in Bermuda to receive automatic approval for up to five Fintech Business Work Permits for the first six months after obtaining the initial permit. There is no requirement to advertise the positions, and the permits can be issued for one, two, three, four, or five years, with fees similar to Global Work Permits.
Moving Logistics:
When planning your move to Bermuda, it’s essential to consider the logistics of transporting your belongings. Plan ahead for customs duty on household goods and seek assistance from reliable international or local removal companies. They can guide you through the process and help ensure a smooth transition.
Transportation:
In Bermuda, there are several options for transportation. You can choose to use public transportation, purchase a private vehicle, or rent a motorbike.
Public Transportation:
Bermuda has a well-established public transportation system, including buses and ferries. The bus service covers most areas of the island, providing convenient and reliable transportation. Ferries are also available and offer a scenic mode of travel, particularly for commuting between the main islands. Public transportation is a popular choice among residents and visitors due to its accessibility and cost-effectiveness.
Private Transportation:
If you prefer the convenience and flexibility of owning a vehicle, there are several models of cars and motorcycles available in Bermuda from local dealers. It’s important to note that in Bermuda, motorists drive on the left side of the road.
Private Vehicle Ownership:
Bermuda’s regulations allow only one car per household, but household members are free to own as many motorcycles as they wish. If you decide to purchase a vehicle, you can explore options from local dealerships. Used motor vehicles are also available for sale by private owners. When buying a new car, prices typically start from $20,000, while new motorcycles can start from $6,000. These prices exclude any additional fees.
Whether you choose public transportation or opt for private vehicle ownership, Bermuda provides a variety of transportation options to suit your needs. Take into account your preferences, budget, and daily commuting requirements when making a decision.
Remember, always adhere to local traffic regulations and drive safely on the left side of the road. Enjoy exploring the beautiful island of Bermuda at your own pace.
Currency:
Bermuda uses Bermudian dollars (BMD) as its official currency. However, US dollars are also widely accepted, with a 1:1 exchange rate. You can use both currencies interchangeably throughout the island.
Standard of Living:
It’s worth noting that the cost of living in Bermuda can be slightly higher than in major cities. However, the island’s natural beauty, serene lifestyle, and welcoming community make it a worthwhile investment.
Medical Facilities:
Bermuda is equipped with several medical facilities across the island to cater to the healthcare needs of residents and visitors. Here are the main medical facilities available:

KEMH is the primary general hospital in Bermuda, providing a wide range of medical services. Please note that the center operates during specific hours of the day. For detailed opening hours, refer to the official resources.
In addition to the main medical facilities mentioned above, Bermuda has Community Health Clinics located throughout the island. These clinics are operated by the government and are dedicated to providing medical services to the public. The four Community Health Centers in Bermuda are:
These community health centers serve as primary care facilities, offering general medical services, preventive care, and health screenings to the local population.
Climate:
Bermuda enjoys a pleasant subtropical climate, characterized by mild winters and warm summers. The island experiences an average temperature range of 68°F to 86°F (20°C to 30°C) during the summer months, and temperatures rarely drop below 60°F (15°C) in winter.
